World of Motion

World of Motion was the pre-cursor to Test Track.  I loved World of Motion, even though it was very low tech and not a thrill ride.  One of the reasons why I love Disney World so much is that the rides were not adrenaline generating.  You simply ride along in some sort of vehicle and take in all the action in front of you.  You were not part of the action.

I’m including a link to a website called “Lost Epcot”, where you can read all the details about the old World of Motion.  http://www.lostepcot.com/worldofmotion.html

With the opening of Universal Studios, I think Disney felt the need to offer more thrill rides, and World of Motion became Test Track.  I like Test Track in that sort of way where you are kind of scared but then you’re not, because the fast race around the track is so much fun after it’s over.  I always scream.  Not sure why, but it seems like the thing to do.

I now read that Test Track is being refurbished.  From the Mouse Savers newsletter:

Disney and General Motors Re-Imagine Test Track Experience

Beginning this fall, Epcot guests will be able to enjoy a re-imagined version of the popular Future World attraction, Test Track presented by Chevrolet.

This new version of the attraction will transform the current testing workshop into the sleek “Chevrolet Design Center at Epcot,” where guests can become immersed in the fun – and fast – world of automotive design. Here, guests will become automotive designers and create their own custom vehicles. Next, they’ll buckle into a six-person SimCar ride vehicle and test out their design on the challenging track of the Test Track course.

Afterward, guests can take a fascinating look into the future of transportation by viewing a collection of the latest Chevrolet vehicles in an all-new showroom.

This is a bit vague but I note that the word “fast” is still in the re-design.  I just hope they don’t make it into some kind of roller-coaster, because then I’ll have to stop riding.  ETA for the new ride is Fall 2012, so I’m hoping it will be open when we visit in October.

Do you remember World of Motion?
